Chelsea art gallery seeks part-time intern starting late September or early October, 2-3 days a week.
The gallery shows work from American Modernism through contemporary. We are a small staff but have a newly-renovated ground floor space which is re-opening this fall. As such we are looking for someone who is willing to jump right in with us on this enormous but exciting task. Duties will include the gamut of administrative tasks (phone-answering, data entry, etc), as well as exhibition support (setting up / taking down shows, researching art and artists, sending press mailings) and all other manner of miscellaneous responsibilities. This could mean delivering artwork to a client, organizing our art inventory or helping us get a work framed or photographed.
A background in art or art history is preferred; however, that you demonstrate strong writing and communication skills, maturity, curiosity, creativity and an eagerness to learn / do just about anything is even more important. We assume that you will approach the internship with professionalism and respect and assure you that you will be treated in kind.
